Current Residents These are a few of horses that currently reside at our farm. There are a total of 27 horses currently staying with us. Photos and the story of each will be coming soon, as time allows us to work on the site. |
Angel ...Angel is a lovely horse, thought to be part Arab. The photo on the top is when we first brought her home. The bottom left is after we had worked with her for several months. The bottom right photo was a recent photo taken of Angel. She was purchased one dark, snowy night out of the back of a killer's stock trailer. She was merely 5 or 6 years old and in what should have been the prime of her life. She was well on her way to the slaughter pen along with her four month old foal by her side. This was totally heart breaking, those big beautiful sad eyes crying out, desperately looking for a place to safely take her baby while other horses were being crowded there around her. This wonderful mare, with the sweetest of temperaments and lovely manners, in no way deserved the fate that was to become her and her baby. Shortly after bringing this mare home, both mother and foal came down with the strangles from being in such a horrible place. Of course, they were isolated from the rest of my herd from the time they came home. But, her son came down with what is known as "Bastard Strangles" (in other words, a severe case of strep infection in his bloodstream). Due to his weakened state from malnutrition at his previous home, we were unable to save this foal. Even though the veterinarians tried everything they could, the infection was just to great to overcome. This sweet little foal was put to rest and is greatly missed. Angel is still a very much loved part of our family and beloved companion to my daughters. Angel will have a forever home with us until she passes away of old age. |
Pokie Pony ...Pokie is another one of our rescued. The first photos were taken shortly after her arrival and the delivery of her foal. The later photos were taken many years later, as she enjoys the freedom on our beautiful Southwest Virginia farm. She is an extremely sweet pony. She was being sold to the killer buyers becuase of a tumor starting in one eye. Although she will eventually lose this eye, she is still a wonderful pony. She is a friend to all and adores babysitting. She came to us in foal and delivered us a beautiful, healthy baby. She has always been a gentle, loving pony and will reside with us until she passes. She is now reaching the ripe old age of approximately 25 years old and we hope that she has many more years with us on our farm. |
Roxanne ...This is Roxanne. When we bought her she had severly bad feet. (notice the picture of her feet. It was taken after we had been trying to correct the problem for about a year.) She was very timid and scared of people when we bought her but now she is an extremly sweet pony. Although she can never be ridden, she is still very loved at our home and will enjoy a life here with us as long as she lives. She is now reaching her late 20's and is very grateful for a second chance in life. |
